Conversion Rate Calculator
Conversion rate is the multiplier on every other marketing number you have. Doubling it doubles the return on every channel simultaneously, which is why I look here before I look at buying more traffic.
Result
FormulaConversion rate = (conversions ÷ visitors) × 100
Worked example
1,496 conversions from 68,000 visitors is a 2.2 percent conversion rate and $4.18 of revenue per visitor. Reaching a 3 percent target would produce 2,040 conversions, 544 more, worth an extra $103,360 at $190 each without buying a single additional visit.
What to watch for
Segment before you optimize. A blended site-wide rate hides the fact that one traffic source converts at 6 percent and another at 0.3 percent, and the fix for each is completely different.
Working benchmarks: ecommerce typically lands in the 1 to 4 percent range, lead generation runs higher because the ask is smaller, and paid branded traffic runs higher still. Compare against your own segment history, not a category average.
Most of the conversion rate lifts I have actually shipped came from removing steps and clarifying the offer, not from button colors. Test the form length and the pricing page before you test the copy on the call to action.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good conversion rate?
There is no universal answer. It depends on traffic intent, price point, and how big the commitment is. The useful question is whether this month beats last month for the same segment and the same offer.
Should I optimize conversion rate or buy more traffic?
Conversion rate first, almost always. It improves the economics of every channel at once, while more traffic just buys more of the same result. Once the rate is healthy, scaling traffic becomes far less risky.
How much traffic do I need to test a change?
Enough for the difference you care about to be distinguishable from noise. For a small relative lift on a low base rate, that is often tens of thousands of visitors per variant. Calling a test at 200 sessions is guessing with extra steps.
