Budget Pacing Calculator

Most budget overruns are not decisions, they are arithmetic nobody did on the twelfth of the month. Enter your budget, spend to date and where you are in the period to see your pacing percentage and the daily rate that lands you on plan.

Daily budget for remaining days$916.67

FormulaPacing % = (spend to date ÷ period budget) ÷ (days elapsed ÷ days in period) × 100

Worked example

A $30,000 monthly budget with $13,500 spent after 12 of 30 days is pacing at 112.5 percent. Current daily spend of $1,125 projects to $33,750 for the month, $3,750 over. To land exactly on budget you would need to spend $916.67 per day for the remaining 18 days.

What to watch for

Pacing between about 95 and 105 percent is normal noise and not worth touching. Reacting to a 103 percent read on day four is how accounts end up with sawtooth delivery and unstable learning.

Never fix an overspend with a hard mid-month pause. Cutting daily budgets gradually keeps the auction stable, while a pause and restart resets pacing behaviour and usually costs more than the overspend would have.

Weekly seasonality wrecks naive pacing for anything with a weekday or weekend skew. If your account has a strong day-of-week pattern, pace against expected spend by day rather than a flat straight line.

Frequently asked questions

Should I aim to spend the entire budget?

Only if the marginal spend still clears your cost per acquisition target. Spending a budget to the last dollar on inventory that does not perform is a worse outcome than handing money back, though it rarely feels that way in a monthly review.

Why does the platform overspend my daily budget?

Most platforms allow daily flexibility and balance out over the billing period or month, so single-day overspend is expected. Judge pacing at the period level, not the day level.
