CPM Calculator
CPM is the price of one thousand impressions, and it is the number that tells you whether you are buying attention at a sane rate. Enter your spend and impressions to get CPM, or set a target CPM to see what your budget should deliver.

FormulaCPM = (total spend ÷ impressions) × 1,000
Worked example
A campaign spends $5,000 and delivers 400,000 impressions. Dividing gives $0.0125 per impression, and multiplying by 1,000 gives a $12.50 CPM. If a comparable placement quotes $20, you are paying a 60 percent premium for the same thousand pairs of eyes, and the creative had better be worth it.
What to watch for
CPM only compares fairly within the same audience and placement quality. A $4 CPM against a broad untargeted audience and a $30 CPM against a tightly defined B2B audience can produce the same pipeline, so never optimize CPM in isolation.
Rising CPM with flat performance usually means creative fatigue or audience saturation rather than a platform price change. Check frequency before you blame the auction.
In my agency work, CPM is the diagnostic I look at second, never first. Cost per outcome comes first; CPM explains why it moved.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good CPM?
It depends entirely on channel and audience. Broad social prospecting often runs a few dollars, niche B2B placements and connected TV can run well into the tens of dollars. The only useful benchmark is your own account's trailing average for the same audience and placement.
What is the difference between CPM and CPC?
CPM prices a thousand impressions regardless of clicks. CPC prices a single click regardless of how many impressions it took. They are linked by click-through rate: CPC equals CPM divided by ten times CTR expressed as a percentage.
Is a lower CPM always better?
No. Cheap impressions against the wrong audience cost more per outcome than expensive impressions against the right one. Judge CPM only after cost per acquisition and conversion rate.
